Summary:    

Tax Assistants / Specialists provide support to customers and related branch locations by reviewing tax documents, tax related requests, issuing corrections and additional tax department responsibilities. Both roles have on-the-job training provided and may have additional duties assigned.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Tax Assistant Main Areas of Responsibility:

  • Review customer accounts and process tax credits for accounts or specific invoices for which a tax exemption is permissible
  • Review customer invoices which have been short paid, which includes reviewing exemption certificates repository to determine whether or not an exemption is already on file; code invoices in system once review is finalized

Tax Specialist Main Areas of Responsibility:

  • Review customer exemption certificates and determine allowable exemptions and set tax status of customer accounts
  • Review and respond to a variety of tax related customer requests
  • Communicate with internal and external customers

Additional Areas of Responsibility, as requested:

  • Prepare and submit business licenses and property taxes
  • Assist with seasonal and project assignments
  • Help with miscellaneous department tasks and responsibilities
  • Gather and retain audit data and documentation

Essential Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance a plus
  • ERP and billing software experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to accept guidance regarding project and task prioritization
  • Time management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
  • Must be able to handle high volume and work within deadlines
  • Ability to work periodically outside of the normal workday as needed
